The danger tree

"About the best prose to ever come out of this country, for my money." ― ALICE MUNROTHE DANGER TREE was met with enormous acclaim when it was first published, garnering rave reviews from critics and readers alike. Now in a new edition featuring an introduction by Giller Prize–nominated author Lisa Moore, David Macfarlane’s memoir tells the story of his mother’s family, the Goodyears of Newfoundland. Weaving together the major events of the twentieth century in Newfoundland―the tuberculosis epidemic, the great seal-hunt disaster, the Confederation debate, and the First World War―the memoir brings to life this storied region with wit, insight, and deep affection. Featuring a multi-generational cast of larger-than-life characters, THE DANGER TREE is brilliant, funny, and profoundly moving, a modern classic about family, history, and the stories we tell.
