Descriere

Lonely Are All the Bridges is the result of more than fifteen years of Robin Hinsch’s photographic research in Ukraine. It reveals a complex story of life in a country torn between its past, war, and an uncertain future. Featuring images alongside an insightful essay by renowned art historian Julian Stallabrass, it offers a perspective on a conflict that touches us all. ‘The project’s title comes from a poem by Ingeborg Bachmann; for a long time, it carried the working title ‘Kowitsch’. What I saw then — and what I witness now — is a country caught between a contested past, a brutal present, and an uncertain future.’ Robin Hinsch (b. 1987), is a Berlin-based freelance photographer and Professor. He studied photography at the University of Arts and Design Karlsruhe (HfG) under Professor Elger Esser, at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Hanover, and completed my Master’s degree under Professor Vincent Kohlbecher in Hamburg. His work has been published in The Guardian, Der Spiegel, Sunday Times Magazine, ZEITmagazin, and SZ Magazin. His work has also been exhibited at the Nobel Peace Center in Oslo, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Paris, and the House of Photography in Hamburg. Hinsch has received numerous awards for his photography including the International Photography Award, the European Exhibition Award, the Sony World Photography Award, and the Georg Koppmann Prize. Since 2016, has been a member of the German Photographic Academy and since 2024 of the German Society of Photography. In 2024, he was appointed Professor of Artistic Photography at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences. His book Wahala was published by GOST Books in 2022.
